View Full Version : Big Bang Theory
It sounds a bit ridiculous to me.
Putting religion aside, it's still doesn't sound more logical. I highly doubt such complex life could have sprouted from such an event. It seems that a lot of science textbooks disagree with me though, anyone else here not a fan of this theory?

The Thing is 2010, is that it is just a theory, so technically its not true, which means that technically anything could have happened.
But something did create the universe, and if this is the best they got going besides god, then its a really really good theory in my opinion

I dont know that to belive. BUt when it will be done?
I agree that this theory has a lot to be desired, but it's a theory, not a scientific fact. I know they are hoping to gain more information with the LHC, and since it has been switched on it's only a matter of time before we see if the project was successful, and hopefully learn more facts about how the universe was created.

I never believed in this theory at all, it all seems like they are following a myth. I don't know who subscribes to these thoughts of the scientists.

Of course science won't be right about everything, but, at least it's based on observation. Religion on the other hand attempts to fit observation to the faith.

I also think that the theory is ridiculous. How can a world as complex as this came from one big explosion? I think scientists ran out of ideas of how the world started, so they simply guessed maybe something huge happened. And it was an explosion. They don't even have any acceptable proof.

well friends recently scientists at CERN did a great job in constructing and successfully operating a $4 billion Large Hardon Collider where 2 protons were collided to recreate the BIG BANG but is it safe remains to be seen.......well anybody read "angels n demons" book by Dan brawn we had a idea about the antimatter bomb...........its a book based on fiction but the real issue im worid abt is abt d reported formation of miniscule black holes wich CERN says has a very short lifespan n dusnt do any damage.....so hve v realy unlocked d secrets??? but anyway mind u the results of d expt wd take yrs 2 analyz

I get paid to study these things as a research scientist.

This hypothesis that the big bang theory is rediculous are ones made in your 'expert' opinion are they? If you can prove that the theory isn't true, I will donate 50 quid to the charity of your choice.

Why should I prove the theory isn't true when they can't even prove the theory is true? That theory is just an assumption with no proofs.

because you can't......
The theory isn't an assumption, and has many proofs. I should know, it's my job to.
a) The universe is expanding, that is observational fact and therefore it was smaller at some point in time.
b) The cosmic microwave background exactly fits the theory another observational fact. One of the main reasons why the predecessor to the theory, steady state theory, was proved wrong.
c) The theory used to study the universe on the large scale has been experimentally proved right repeatedly, i.e relativity. It has never shown any discrepencies with experiment.
Even if it is wrong, at the moment it is the best theory there is, that has not been proved wrong yet.

Maybe some things in the theory are right. Now I actually think some things in this theory are true after reading more about it. And it's not really ridiculous. But the theory is not fully true because it's not specific about how can such a complex universe be created.
